Position: Ceramics & Pottery Arts Teacher
Location: Mosta and/or Zurrieq
Employment Type: Contractual basis, with opportunities to lead one-time workshops or structured 10-week courses, meeting once weekly.

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Ceramics & Pottery Arts Teacher to join our team. In this role, you will lead students through the fundamental and advanced techniques of pottery, from wheel throwing and hand-building to glazing and firing, you will provide comprehensive instruction that helps students develop their skills and creativity in creating unique ceramic pieces.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction in Pottery Techniques: Teach students the basics and advanced techniques of pottery, including wheel throwing, hand-building, slab construction, and sculptural techniques. Guide them through the entire process from shaping to firing.
- Ceramic Painting and Glazing: Instruct students on various glazing techniques, including dipping, brushing, and spraying. Explore different types of glazes and their effects on ceramic surfaces. Teach decorative techniques like underglazing, overglazing, and surface embellishments.
- Material and Tool Knowledge: Provide guidance on selecting and using various ceramics materials such as clays, glazes, and firing methods. Educate students on the use and maintenance of pottery tools and equipment.
- Lesson Planning and Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver comprehensive lessons to all students, ensuring each session is engaging and tailored to the needs of the class.
- Individualised Teaching: Adapt your teaching approach to meet the diverse educational needs, abilities, and achievement levels of individual students and groups, ensuring each learner is supported and challenged appropriately.
- Student Progress and Well-being: Promote the overall progress, development, and well-being of each student, group, or class under your care, providing a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
- Collaboration and Development: Work closely with the Head of Education, Sales & Marketing Manager, and fellow teachers to design, develop, and refine courses of study, teaching materials, and educational programs that meet the highest standards.
- Professional Standards: Uphold and maintain high standards of professional practice, ensuring the quality of your teaching is consistently excellent.
- Classroom Management: Ensure good order and discipline within the classroom, prioritizing the health, safety, and well-being of all students during each session.
- Facilitating Reflective Learning: Foster a culture where teachers are seen as facilitators of learning, encouraging students to reflect on their progress and engage in self-directed learning.
- Use of Technology: Effectively incorporate audiovisual and technological tools, such as projectors and other digital aids, to enhance lesson delivery and engage students in the learning process.
Requirements:
- Portfolio of Work: A strong portfolio showcasing your works of art.
- Expertise in Ceramics: Extensive experience in ceramics and pottery arts, including proficiency in various techniques such as wheel throwing and hand-building.
- Glaze and Firing Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of ceramic glazes, including how to mix custom glazes and use ready-made options. Strong understanding of kiln operation and firing processes, with experience in Raku firing being a plus.
- Teaching Experience: Previous experience teaching is preferred but not essential.
- Fluency in English
