The urge to make art that is imaginative and exciting is what this 'Character & Creature Design' course is all about. Exploring the realm of the mind with fantasy images is creativity at its very best and these art lessons will allow you to explore the materials, techniques, and processes of character designers.

The goal is to visually communicate characters for life and create your own characters and creatures. Exploration, getting out of your comfort zone and visually communicating through drawing will be major components to our course. At the end of the course, you will have a portfolio of character and creature creation work

The Character & Creature Design Course will cover the following topics:

  • Creating interesting and attention-catching designs for unique characters
  • Creating comics
  • Props and clothing design
  • Storytelling through characters' appearance
  • Finding your art style
  • Experimenting with new materials
  • Creating believable creatures
This course is suitable for students who already have a basic knowledge of drawing and have attended art lessons in the past. The course is not suitable for a total beginner. 

The Character & Creature Design Course (Ages 11-17) is carried out in small groups. Art Academy is fully air-conditioned and is equipped with televisions, projectors, and sound system.


Course Details
  • Mode of Study: Once weekly (2 hours per lesson)
  • Duration: 10 weeks
  • Location: Art Academy Mosta (131 Constitution Street, Mosta, Malta)
  • What’s Included: Hands-on teaching, PowerPoint presentations, live demonstrations, handouts, and individual attention.
  • Certification: Upon attendance of 80% of the Course, students will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance and will be accredited for their Informal Learning and given a signed and stamped form for their Informal Education by the Institute.

Course Funding

Tax Deduction on Fees paid for Cultural and Creative Courses:

Parents of children under 16 who attended any Cultural or Creative courses at Art Academy are eligible for a tax deduction scheme of up to a maximum of €300 for each child. Parents are entitled to claim a deduction against their chargeable income of up to a maximum of €300 for each child. 

You don't need to do anything, we will apply for you after the completion of the course.
