Nitram charcoal batons measure 1/4" square x 6" long (5 mm × 152 mm). Nitram B is very soft, yet still able to carry a point for working rich blacks into the paper or canvas. Nitram HB is a medium-soft charcoal preferred for drawing and sketching, with a superior hold — perfect for homogenizing tones and retaining tonal detail. Nitram H can be sharpened to an extra-fine point for creating fine detail in drawings. Its unique hardness also makes lighter and midtones easier to attain.
The sharpening bloc is ideal for shaping and sharpening charcoal and other drawing media. Simply hold the handle and drag the Nitram charcoal batons over the sanded pad.
