This course focuses on the principles of designing for 3D printing using CAD software, specifically Fusion 360. You will learn how to create functional, aesthetically pleasing models while considering the limitations and unique characteristics of 3D printing technology.
Join us for an engaging course led by Joseph Casha, a respected expert in the 3D printing community and the creator of the popular YouTube channel @3DMakerNoob. With extensive experience across various types of 3D printers and a deep understanding of 3D design, Joseph offers a wealth of knowledge and practical skills. His insights will enrich your learning experience, ensuring you leave with valuable expertise and a solid understanding of 3D printing.
What You’ll Learn:
- Fundamentals of Design: Differentiate between CAD and organic design, understand the limitations of 3D printing, and get an overview of essential 3D modelling software, including Fusion 360.
- Fusion 360 Skills: Navigate the user interface, set up your workspace, and distinguish between bodies and components while creating example models using CAD methodology.
- Core Design Principles: Master dimensional accuracy, tolerances, printing slopes, layer height planning, part orientation, and the balance between form and function in your designs.
- 2D CAD Techniques: Gain proficiency in parametric design, sketching, applying constraints, and modifying sketches for optimal design efficiency.
- 3D CAD Techniques: Learn how to extrude sketches, create solid models, modify bodies, and implement threads along with cut and join techniques.
- Design Optimization for 3D Printing: Discover how to effectively use supports, design vertical holes, create staggered and sacrificial layers, and apply fillets, chamfers, and bridges.
- Embedding Functional Items: Learn to embed magnets, nuts, threaded inserts, and internal reinforcements seamlessly into your designs.
- Creating Print-in-Place Mechanisms: Explore techniques for designing functional mechanisms such as hinges, chain links, living hinges, ball joints, and compliant mechanisms.
- Designing Multi-Part Objects: Understand how to split models, create multi-color designs, implement connectors, and ensure proper tolerances.
- Practical Application: Apply your knowledge by designing a complete model from scratch, incorporating all the principles learned throughout the course.
This course is designed for beginners that are interested in learning about 3D designing using Fusion360. The student needs to be comfortable working on a laptop. By the end of this course, you’ll have a solid foundation in designing for 3D printing, enabling you to create innovative and functional models tailored for successful printing.
